The Libra Symbol: Weakness, Personality and Strength

The Libra Symbol: Weakness, Personality and Strength

Astrology is fascinating, and it can really get into someone’s psyche and describe them pretty accurately! Those born under the Libra symbol are a great example of that. If you know or love a Libra, or if you’re one yourself, you can likely come up with a set of characteristics that will be pretty universal. Birthdate Co. has more on who counts as a Libra and what makes them tick.

To Start, Who Qualifies As a Libra?

According to astrologers, people who claim the Libra symbol were born between September 23rd and October 22nd. If you want to be more specific, you can consult your personalized natal chart, but that does require that you know the exact time of your birth. While this can be tricky, you can still learn a lot about yourself by just using your date of birth without needing any of that extra information. If you decide you want an even more detailed natal chart, Birthdate Co. offers the Birthdate Book, a beautiful, hardbound tome that displays your exact natal chart and contains over 70 pages of horoscope analysis.

To help you put a face to a Libra, quite a few celebrities and well-known people were born under the sign of Libra. Kim Kardashian (October 21st), Cardi B (October 11th), Bruno Mars (October 8th), Donald Glover (September 25th), and even the namesake behind the Nobel Peace Prize, Alfred Nobel (October 21st), are all Libras. Notice any similar characteristics between them?

The Libra Symbol - The Scales

If you look at the Libra symbol, it really will tell you pretty much all you need to know about what drives them: balance. There isn’t much in the world that is more important than finding a sense of harmony, balance, and equality in all things.

The Libra symbol is known as the “Scales of Justice,” which you’ve probably seen represented by the statue outside of most courthouses. Held by Lady Justice, also known as Themis (who often wears a blindfold so that she is not swayed by what she sees), the Scales of Justice are the ultimate judge of right and wrong, good decisions versus bad.

Interestingly, Libras are the only astrological sign that is not represented by a living creature. This is another clue to how they may approach things.

Libras Are a Cardinal Air Sign

Each of the 12 astrological signs is placed into one of four elemental categories - Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Libra, along with Gemini and Aquarius, are considered to be Air signs. But what does that mean, and how can you use that information?

Air signs are often considered to be the “doers” of the elements. They have a tendency to be constantly on the move and usually social. They also love to analyze and think everything through (even more than necessary), which leads to them spending a lot of time in their own heads. They focus a lot on the little details and pride themselves on really seeing things from both sides of the coin, even in some of the trickiest situations.

Libras are also one of four “cardinal” signs. These are the signs that mark the start of each of the solar seasons. In Libras’ case, that is Autumn. Cardinal signs tend to be leaders instead of followers and love to dive head-on into everything they do. For reference, the other cardinal zodiac signs are Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn. This desire to be first and their aptitude to lead can also result in impulsivity, though, as it’s the quick decision that is important and not the research leading to making a good one.

The Strengths of Those Behind the Libra Symbol

Libra embodies a host of positive qualities, taking after the planet that rules them and its goddess, Venus. Just like Venus, Libras tend to be very loving and compassionate, caring wholly and deeply for those around them. While it can seem like an act to others, Libras are incredibly genuine with their consideration for others and aren’t shy at expressing it. They are also very introspective, which makes them very self-aware.

The Libra symbol also isn’t the Scales of Justice for no reason. Libras have a very strong sense of what they believe to be right and wrong and don’t waver. Fairness and balance are always at the forefront of their minds, and they can be doggedly determined to both find and exude it. That leads to a tendency to go out of their way to be understanding and inclusive and especially sensitive to people they feel are being unfairly alienated.

Libras are also very social creatures. Even the introverted Libras enjoy some sort of interaction, and you can find most of them randomly chatting up someone in line at the grocery store or sitting in the waiting room at the doctor’s office. There is just something about their aura that attracts people and makes people open up more than they do with most other signs. It’s that sense of ease and lack of judgment that makes people adore Libras so much, even when they are frustrated with them.

If you’re looking for a sensitive, romantic partner, Libras are an excellent choice. Just like Venus, Libras tend to be naturally beautiful (and often completely unaware of that fact). They fall in love quickly but love with their entire heart. That sense of balance means that they are often at their best when they have a partner, especially one who understands them and can help balance them out. Where there are plenty of happy, single Libras out there, many find themselves finding a little bit empty and lost when they’re on their own.

And finally, those under the Libra symbol are great at finding, creating, and appreciating art. They have a natural aesthetic and attraction to beautiful things, whether paintings, furniture, poetry, or even people! Celebrate that with a Birthdate Candle designed specifically for Libras, and show them how much you understand and love them, or present them with a beautiful piece of art for their birthday or a special occasion.

    Libras Key Weaknesses

Libras’ greatest strengths can also be their biggest downfalls, especially if they aren’t checked or taken to the extreme.

Take their strong moral compass, for instance. While this leads them to be compassionate and kind, that can also be something that people can take advantage of. Libras want to avoid conflict at any cost, which means they put themselves last most of the time. Their self-sacrificing nature can be great for their loved ones but often leave Libras feeling burnt out and unappreciated. That toxic positivity can take a major toll on their self-confidence.

This desire to avoid conflict can also lead to Libras not really saying what they mean (or meaning what they say). They are extremely perceptive to other people’s emotions, even the unspoken ones, so if they detect any amount of animosity or frustration, their natural tendency is just to shut down or appease others to avoid a fight. Libras are also professional repressors, shoving down their own feelings to take care of everyone else. Without fail, that leads to explosions when they can’t hold it in anymore (and usually at inappropriate times or people).

Libras are also famous for being indecisive. If you haven’t known or loved a Libra (or been one yourself), this can often come across as being lazy. However, if you were able to venture inside a Libra’s mind, you’d see that it is more of them wanting to literally consider every single option carefully so that they don’t make a rash decision that they may regret. Pushing them to make a quicker decision is just likely to lead to a fight and won’t help them be any more decisive.

Many Libras find it helpful to be presented with multiple options that they can choose between or for their partners to just make the decision for them. Just be prepared to hear that they don’t want to do what you suggest and would rather take the time to make the decision themselves.
